In 2015, we worked to amplify the advocacy work of four different Leaders on campaigns. In the span of a couple of months, support provided to HHN Leader Adam Garber generated 2,040 additional public comments from people connected through HHN in support of his organization’s petition to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Weeks later, in a separate campaign on behalf of HHN Leader Maya van Rossum, executive director of the Delaware Riverkeeper, and helped her and the campaign get 468 more people to take action. Together, Maya, her vast organization Delaware River Keeper Network, these new supporters and other Leaders pressured DRBC to hold independent hearings and expanded community opportunities to fight the proposed pipeline. (Read about her campaign's huge win here and connect with Maya directly).
And when Gillian Graber, the founder of the local advocacy group Protect PT, sought assistance turning out supporters at a local public discussion on the impacts of shale gas development in Washington County, Pennsylvania, she was able to include the 28 HHN supporters who live in the county in the event.
Finally, we worked with Tim Whitehouse of Chesapeake Physicians for Social Responsibility to tell fracking companies to end non-disclosure agreements for people who sign contracts with them. This campaign drove more than 10,000 comments.
