Lines Between Issues Fade ~ From the Gas Fields to the City, Black Lives Matter

The Halt the Harm network does this work because we love people. We love activists and the environment.  As a movement, we don’t shy away from hard and uncomfortable work.  Pollution and threats to people who we know and harms that will fall on those we don’t know anger us.  We believe in social change and cultural and policy progress.

The utter disregard for justice, compassion and acceptance of abuse is never OK.  Marginalizing the suffering of others is always a failure. Current events have left us, our friends and families in pain today.  And, we know all too well, it is important for us to support your voices, leadership, and thoughtful campaigns.

Usually we focus on fighting the harms of fracking and oil and gas development.  But these issues are intertwined with equity and racial parity.  We must be anti-racist too.

We can’t care deeply about threats from the oil and gas development industry, the violations they impose on our rights, and be silent around the threats of police violence and the generations of racism imposed on our black, brown and indigenous brothers and sisters here in the United States. Racism is also our shared problem.

Today, in response to the senseless murder of George Floyd and to elevate important voices fighting to end police violence we encourage everyone to join and support Campaign Zero.

Campaign Zero

Campaign ZERO was developed with contributions from activists, protesters and researchers across the nation. This data-informed platform presents comprehensive solutions to end police violence in America. It integrates community demands and policy recommendations from research organizations and President Obama’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing. Together, we will win.

At https://campaignzero.org/ you can;

  • Find Your Representatives, See where they stand, demand action
  • Donate to support analysis of policing practices, identifying solutions to end police violence, and provide assistance to organizers leading police accountability campaigns
  • Track Progress of Legislation on Federal, State, and local levels addressing police violence

Scrolling through their website you will find a rich resource of materials to understand the solutions directly from the communities most impacted by police violence.

“We can live in a world where the police don’t kill people by limiting police interventions, improving community interactions, and ensuring accountability.” ~ campaignzero.org

Silence is not an option.

Thank you for being a part of this network, and for being you.

Sincerely,
Halt the Harm Network Operations Team
