SUMMARY:Chemical Disclosure and FOIA Requests Q&A with env. attorney Dusty Horwitt
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an informal discussion and Q&A with environmental attorney Dusty Horwitt. Dusty will share examples from his work and share the types of support he offers leaders in Halt the Harm Network through the Services Lab. \n \nAbout Dusty Horwitt \nDusty Horwitt is the attorney whose transparency work helped pass Colorado’s landmark PFAS ban in oil and gas wells\, protected the Delaware River Basin from fracking\, and has consulted on transparency laws in 16 states. His FOIA research exposed the widespread use of ‘forever chemicals’ in fracking operations and forced industry disclosure across multiple states.

SUMMARY:Building a National Movement to Fight AI Data Centers: Organizing Training Series
DESCRIPTION:The Data Center Working Group\, Kairos Fellowship\, and Fight Oligarchy team are offering a five-part training series to support organizing and campaign efforts to stop the expansion of data centers. Each session covers key skills and techniques to help groups build winning coalitions\, strategies\, and campaigns. We need to build the power to win meaningful policy change at the local and state level. This session will be focused on how to develop larger coalitions that can be effective and can help you build enough power to win. \nTuesday\, June 9: Session Four: Leveraging Research to Follow the Money OVERVIEW. Gain tools to ask powerful research questions\, uncover connections and lobbying relationships\, and follow money trails that corporations hide to gain a strategic advantage over our communities. \nTuesday\, June 16: Session Five: Building Sustained Engagement\nOVERVIEW. The battle against new AI data centers is not an easy fight. This session will focus on how to build a plan that helps to sustain and grow community leadership in your campaign and positions your work for the long haul. \nhttps://go.wethefighters.org/DataCenterTraining \nImage: Deborah Lupton / https://betterimagesofai.org / https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

SUMMARY:Fly Away Home Festival: A Tribute to Hazel Dickens
DESCRIPTION:We are hosting our second annual music festival\, FLY AWAY HOME FEST in celebration of Hazel Dickens’s 101st birthday. This event is scheduled for Fri-\nSun May 29-31st\, at various locations in Mercer County. The main concert performances will occur all day Saturday the 30th at the Glenwood Park\nAmphitheater at 4435 New Hope Road\, Princeton\, West Virginia 24739. The full event schedule may be found at: flyawayhomefest.com/event-schedule \nHazel was an American bluegrass singer born in Montcalm\, West Virginia\, on June 1st\, 1925. We are celebrating our dear sister\, known for her high\, lonesome singing style\, and for giving voice to the struggles of women and working people through her provocative songwriting. She was posthumously inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2017. We are hosting this performance just 15 minutes away from her hometown. \nWe also have the distinct privilege of having renowned bands from WV and KY such as The Local Honeys\, Dale Ann Bradley\, Olivia Ellen Lloyd\, and many others. We will also be joined by Arnold “Buddy” Dickens and Co\, Hazel’s nephew\, visiting from Maryland to share some stories of Hazel\, and perform some of her songs! We are thrilled to host this event and hope you will come out and support Hazel’s memory\, our coal miners\, and our strong mountain heritage! \nThis event is made possible by our fiscal sponsor\, the WV Music Hall of Fame\, and will feature a silent auction of coal-mining items\, music\, stories\, and towards the evening Saturday we will raffle off an engraved rifle with lyrics from Hazel’s song “They’ll Never Keep us Down.” There will be food trucks\, information booths\, and activities. Bring a blanket or lawn chair! \nOn behalf of all those among our loved ones\, friends\, and community members affected by this disease\, we hope you can join us!
