SUMMARY:2024 Liquid Natural Gas Export Study Comment Writing Open Office Hour
DESCRIPTION:Are you concerned about how liquified natural gas (LNG) industry expansion could impact your health\, environment\, pocketbook\, and climate? For good reason! \nWe need as many people as possible to submit a unique message to the Department of Energy (DOE) during a critical comment period. Your voice matters\, and our collective efforts can make a difference. \nIf you want more information about what to include in a comment or how to submit one\, join our comment writing office hours on Friday\, January 14\, between 3-4 p.m. Join for ten minutes or the whole hour. Don’t miss this opportunity to tell the DOE how increased LNG exports will affect you! \nBackground information:\nIn December\, the Biden Administration released its long-awaited\, critical analysis of the environmental\, economic\, and public health impacts of liquified natural gas (LNG) exports. The findings – which are used to shape the DOE’s public interest determination – make it clear that approving more LNG exports will lead to more costs for American consumers\, undermine global progress on climate change\, and harm communities already overburdened by pollution. \nThe DOE is looking for public input from affected communities\, workers\, local businesses\, academic researchers\, and other stakeholders about the health\, economic\, and environmental impacts of gas exports. The effects of increasing LNG exports will reach average Americans through their utility bills and their purchases of consumer goods. If you live near any component of the natural gas industry\, including fracking wells\, pipelines\, compressor stations\, export terminals\, and liquefaction facilities\, more LNG will mean more buildout and more exposure to pollution. Additionally\, more LNG exports will lead to increases in climate change causing greenhouse gas emissions\, which affects everyone. \nTell the DOE that more LNG exports are not in the public interest! \nThe deadline is Tuesday\, February 18\, 2025\, at 4:30 PM EST. \nCan’t make it to Friday’s office hours? You can submit your comment any time before 2/18/25. Remember to personalize your comments before submission to ensure your comment is counted! We will also share guidance documents to help you craft an effective comment. \nPreferred comment submission method: Submit Your Public Comment: LNG Exports Aren’t in the Public interest \nIf you have additional resources (like photos or other supporting documents) to submit\, you can add your comment and attachments here.
