Data center proposals are moving quickly across Southwestern Pennsylvania, and the people who live closest to them are often the last to get clear information.
In this webinar, four Pittsburgh-based students and recent graduates working with our friends at FracTracker Alliance shared what they found after nine weeks of research into 12 data center proposals.
The research team looked at proposals across Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland, Beaver, Greene and Indiana counties. They attended public meetings, filed Right-to-Know requests, reviewed permits, researched ordinances and zoning designations, mapped nearby community resources and ecological sites, and talked with residents about what they are seeing.

Each one shows a different pattern playing out in data center fights nationwide, from behind-the-meter power build-out to the use of moratoriums that buy time for local ordinance updates.
