Why We Prep: An Enabled Guide to Disaster Response

July 22 @ 1:00 pm2:00 pm EDT

1 in 3 Americans live within range of a potential chemical disaster – but how many of us know how to handle them?

Join the People Over Petro Coalition and Break Free From Plastic for a special workshop during Disability Pride Month launching the new, plain-language resource

Why We Prep: An Enabled Guide to Disaster Response. During this workshop, we’ll hear more about these accessible materials from POPCO’s Climate Justice Coordinator, Jason Hallmark, and Illustrator Michelle Sayles, and receive expert insights from Dr. Sherman Gillums Jr., the former FEMA Director of Disability Integration & Coordination.

You’ll leave with new tools and understandings for how to integrate disability justice into your personal preparation and our wider movement.

Image Description: A multi-generational group of people sit together in a living room, discussing disaster planning. One person has a prosthetic leg, another is using a wheelchair, and a third has a service dog next to them on the couch. In the next room, a long-haired person tends to a simmering pot on a stove.
