Ohio River Valley Institute (ORVI) released a poll showing voters across demographics are deeply concerned about impacts of gas drilling, support increased industry regulation.

This event was an advance discussion with Joanna Kilgour (executive director) and Eric de Place (research fellow) from ORVI on the implications of this data and its impact on our efforts to protect our health and communities from the harms of fracking.

​While this poll is specific to Pennsylvania, this could have implications for other regions as well impacted by the harms of fracking.

​A new poll will be released on Thursday that shows that voters across demographics are deeply concerned about impacts of gas drilling, support increased industry regulation

​Johnstown, PA —— The Ohio River Valley Institute will release a groundbreaking new poll on Thursday, July 29 that makes it clear: by overwhelming margins, PA voters back Attorney General Josh Shapiro’s recommendations to sharply limit the fracking industry in order to protect public health and safety.

​Voters across all demographics – Democrats, Republicans, and Independents; men and women; college- and non-college-educated voters; and every age group and region – are concerned about environmental and health impacts of drilling, and question whether economic benefits are worth the health risks and environmental degradation that results from fracking. This result is not surprising, given recent research showing that the natural gas boom didn’t bring jobs and prosperity to Appalachia because only a tiny fraction of the money invested in and earned from gas entered local economies.

​The poll also shows that voters overwhelmingly support clean energy development. The full poll will be released on Thursday, July 29, 2021.
