About the Presenters

Lean Leiter – Leann Leiter is Earthworks’ Pennsylvania & Ohio Field Advocate and a certified optical gas imaging thermographer. She partners with communities to expose the oil and gas industry’s air pollution in the Appalachian region and to advocate for protections for health and the climate

Earthworks thermographer Leann Leiter

Leann, from rural Pennsylvania, is delighted to collaborate with shale gas communities in Ohio and Pennsylvania as the region’s Field Advocate.

She joined Earthworks in November 2017 after completing a research fellowship with FracTracker Alliance and the Environmental Health Project. In addition to the valuable experience she gained in that role, she brings to Earthworks a passion for achieving environmental and social justice through participatory, community-based research methods. Her fracking-related research has centered on topics including disaster preparedness, petrochemical development, and fracking’s household impacts.

Prior to completing an MA in Sustainable Communities at Northern Arizona University in 2016, Leann worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a grant and contract supervisor and as a Spanish-English translator.

Leann loves any excuse to be outside, and nurtures a major fascination with fly fishing, backpacking, foraging and gardening, and painting pictures of abandoned houses.
